What is CBD?
Cannabidiol is one of over 60 active chemical compounds (or ‘cannabinoids’) in the marijuana plant. It’s usually the second-most abundant cannabinoid, behind Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
What is the best way of using CBD?

Most CBD products are taken orally via oil drops that are placed under the tongue and held for 60 seconds before swallowing. Topical creams and ointments such as CBD balms are also effective, as is smoking or vaporizing CBD-rich marijuana strains like ACDC or Charlotte’s Web. You can also get a variety of CBD edibles, such as these CBD gummies. CBD must only be taken in the recommended amount per day, as the CBD in every product is carefully measured. Always pay attention to the advisory information attached to each pot of CBD balm. Despite it only being a topical CBD product compared to ones you ingest, such as the CBD essential oils or gummies, you must still follow the health and safety guidance.

Are CBD products including CBD oil and CBD muscle balm legal in the UK?

You may be wondering about CBD’s legal status in the UK? This is a question we get asked all the time. So, what does the current UK law state about the legality of CBD Oil, Hemp and Cannabis? The short answer is that Cannabidiol (CBD) is not considered a controlled substance in the UK. It is therefore 100% legal and can be freely distributed in the UK without restrictions, meaning using CBD in the form of a balm, CBD edibles such as gummies, CBD oils, CBD capsules etc are okay and there is no need to worry.

Just because it is legal, you should still make sure you only buy the best CBD balms to ensure they are safe and high-quality. You should always buy from leading experts such as our team at SmileCBD.

How do CBD products work?

CBD functions by binding to cannabinoid receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. These receptors have been found in virtually every cell and tissue type in the human body (hence the seemingly endless array of CBD uses and its promotion for health and wellness including pain and anxiety).

You may notice that there are many claims regarding CBD, such as it having anti-inflammatory properties. It is important to do your research (there are many helpful resources including the World Health Organisation) and understand the evidence behind claims and if a website makes claims without providing scientific support then you should think carefully about buying from them.

We believe in being honest about the fantastic benefits to your mind and body that CBD provides and should you have any questions, we are always happy to discuss them with you.

Is CBD natural?
Yes, CBD is a 100% naturally occurring chemical compound that comes directly from the cannabis plant. It is not synthetically made and so you can trust our CBD gummies. We also try to keep them free from such things as artificial sweeteners and you can see all of the ingredients used in each CBD product, such as this CBD muscle balm. UK customers can see our lab reports and test results for each CBD gummy product if they wish to find out more information. We utilise a mix of third-party lab testing and our own testing process.

Does CBD come from marijuana or hemp?
Marijuana and hemp are two different varieties of cannabis that come from the same species of plant (Cannabis sativa L). In general, CBD is found abundantly in both. However, it’s important to note that CBD is typically found in the seeds and stem of marijuana – not in the flowering buds (which is the part that you smoke). The hemp plant is an entirely different strain of cannabis that contains high quantities of CBD throughout (stem, buds, etc), and practically zero traces of THC. If a hemp plant contains more than 0. 3% THC, it is then technically a “marijuana” plant. Most of the CBD-based products come from the industrial hemp plant and it is important to be aware of whether you are buying CBD oil, hemp extract or any other type of hemp products. For additional information and a full list of what our CBD products contain, see the individual product pages.
How is CBD isolated from the cannabis plant?
CO2 extraction is the best method to extract pure CBD isolate, in which state it exists as a clear/white crystal. This method is preferred over other methods because it leaves practically zero traces of chemical contaminants in the end product. Alcohol extraction is another method, wherein a liquid such as ethanol, butane, or hexane is run through the raw plant material to extract the CBD and then evaporated to leave only the active cannabinoid. This can be a dangerous CBD method because it’s prone to leaving excess traces of the butane or hexane chemicals in the extract. Also, infusing vegetable oil (i.e. olive oil) is another effective way of extracting CBD. All you do is grind up the raw plant material, decarboxylate (heat) it, and let it sit in boiling (100-deg Celsius) oil for about 2 hours.
How does broad-spectrum CBD differ from other types of CBD?
It can be confusing trying to understand the benefits of each form of CBD, whether it is CBD Isolate, Full-spectrum CBD and Broad-spectrum CBD. We believe broad-spectrum CBD is the best option for our products as it is typically completely THC free when compared to full-spectrum CBD. There are competing claims about the different choices available on the market and it is important to do your research on the benefits of CBD and the amount of CBD (mg of CBD) to consume. To help in your decision, please take a look at comments from customers that have reviewed our CBD balms and other CBD products. There is a range of information online about both broad-spectrum CBD and full-spectrum CBD, but make sure you use sources you can trust.
